18th of July, 2024
The Commandant of the Defence College, Rear Admiral O.M. Olotu has described the College as one of the national asset which plays vital diplomatic roles such as partnering with the Economic Community of West African States, therefore requires a well-motivated staff to handle.
He also intimated the Chairman on some of the core functions of the College among which is the training of senior military officers in the country and across Africa.
Rear Admiral Olotu stated this when he led a delegation of high ranking officers of the College to a courtesy visit to the Commission.
He said the call for a well-motivated staff became necessary because of the discrepancies in the remuneration, as the personnel of the College comprises both civilians and the military staff, while the military staff enjoy the remuneration of the Armed Forces, the civilian staff are paid the salary applicable in the mainstream Federal Civil Service which according to him is lower in comparison and a disincentive in the College.
Responding, the Chairman of the Commission, Ekpo Nta, Esq. commended the Commandant for his leadership style and also lauded the achievements of the National War College over the years. He told the guests that the National Salaries Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) encourages inter-agency collaborations and is always ready to treat every request dispassionately. In terms of salary administration, which is one of the core functions of the Commission, the Chairman emphasized that fairness, equity, and good justification are considered while processing requests from MDAs. Therefore, he advised the Commandant that the College should submit its request with good justifications.
