Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC)
Major General Junaid Sani Bindawa (Rtd), PhD, Fdc(+) is a distinguished Nigerian military officer, strategic leader and administrator with extensive experience in leadership, strategic planning, policy formulation, human resource management, training and administration. He brings to the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) a wealth of experience acquired through a distinguished military career spanning command, staff, instructional and strategic appointments.
A native of Bindawa Local Government Area of Katsina State, Major General Bindawa commenced his education at Gobarau Primary School, Katsina, and Government College, Katsina. He proceeded to the College of Arts, Science and Technology, Zaria, where he obtained the Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) qualification, before pursuing his university education.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication/Political Science from Bayero University, Kano; a Master of Science degree in International Relations from the University of Maiduguri; and a Master of Science degree in Defence and Strategic Studies from the National Defence University, Islamabad, Pakistan. He also holds a PhD in Defence and Strategic Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).
Major General Bindawa received extensive professional military training in Nigeria and abroad. His courses include the Young Officers’ Courses in Armour and Infantry; Platoon Commanders’ Course in Armour; Junior and Senior Division Courses at the Command and Staff College, Jaji; Company Commanders’ Course at the Armoured Corps Centre and School, Bauchi; Commanding Officers’ Course at the School of Infantry, Jaji; and the National Defence Course at the National Defence University, Islamabad. He also attended a Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Warfare Course in the United Kingdom.
During his distinguished career in the Nigerian Army, he held several command, staff and strategic appointments. These included Platoon Commander, General Staff Officer, Battalion Adjutant, Company Commander, Staff Officer responsible for Manpower at Army Headquarters, General Staff Officer at the Department of Policy and Plans, Garrison Commander, Defence Adviser at the Nigerian Mission in Pakistan, Directing Staff and Principal Staff Officer (Coordination) at the National Defence College, Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armoured School, and General Officer Commanding 7 Division, Maiduguri. He also served in senior appointments at Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command, Minna.
His military career included participation in international and operational missions, notably ECOMOG in Liberia, the United Nations Mission in Western Sahara, and Operation Zaman Lafiya. He also gained broad international exposure through professional assignments and engagements across Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
In recognition of his service and professional accomplishments, Major General Bindawa has received a number of military decorations and qualifications, including GSS, CMH, DSS, PSC, ndu (pak) and fdc(+).
As Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, Major General Bindawa provides strategic leadership for the Commission in the discharge of its mandate on salaries, incomes and wages policy and related matters within the Nigerian public service.
He is married and blessed with children. His interests include hunting, driving and playing golf.
