ABE, Akinola Stephen
Abe Akinola Stephen is a seasoned public service professional and the Head of Compensation in the Commission. He began his career with the Commission in August 1996, when he was employed as an Administrative Officer II and deployed to the Compensation Department as the pioneer officer of the Department. Through dedication, competence, and consistent performance, he rose steadily through the ranks and was promoted to the position of Deputy Director in January 2020. In recognition of his vast experience and contributions, he was appointed Head of Compensation in September 2024.
Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Stephen has played a critical role in shaping public service compensation frameworks. He has represented the Commission as a member of various Federal Government negotiating teams on the conditions of service of unions in the public service. Notable among these engagements are negotiations involving the Nigeria Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU), Academic Staff Union (ASU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).
Mr. Stephen’s solid educational foundation has significantly contributed to his professional competence. He completed his primary education before attending Methodist Comprehensive High School, Aaye–Ekiti, from 1975 to 1982. He proceeded to Igbobi College, Yaba, Lagos, where he undertook his GCE Advanced Level programme from 1982 to 1984. He later attended Ondo State University, Ado–Ekiti (now Ekiti State University), where he graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Economics.
With nearly three decades of experience in public service administration and compensation management, Abe Akinola Stephen remains widely respected for his institutional knowledge, negotiation skills, and commitment to the advancement of equitable remuneration policies in the Nigerian public service.
