Salaries And Wages Commission Develops A 5-Year Strategic Plans

The National Salaries Incomes and Wages Commission must collaborate with major stakeholders if it is to successfully implement its full mandate of being the hub for determining a fair compensation package driven by employee productivity and ability to pay.

Ekpo Nta, Esq. the Acting Chairman of the Commission, made this known in Calabar at a 3-day Management Retreat to Develop a Five Year Strategic Action Plan for the National Salaries, Wages and Incomes Commission.

The Acting Chairman noted that the Commission had in the past two decades made very valuable contributions to compensation packages and policies in Nigeria.

A statement from the Chief Press Secretary, Emma Njoku quoted the Acting Chairman as saying that the proposed Strategic Action Plan is aimed at reviewing the extent of implementation of the Commission’s mandates and exploring fresh strategies required to address emerging challenges facing the 21st century workforce.

Also to address this, the Acting Chairman said the Commission is planning a National Conference and Zonal Workshops on the implementation of the National Minimum Wage.

In a remark, the guest of honor, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, who is also the Chairman, Senate Committee on Establishment and public Service said the mandates of the National Salaries Incomes and Wages Commission have become very strategic in addressing the needs of nation’s work force.

He noted that the idea of collaborating with some major stakeholders in the proposed National Conference is key as it will address the plight of the people in the rural areas.
Senator Shekarau, who was a former Governor of Kano State also noted that the issue of giving autonomy to local government would reduce poverty at the grassroots.
